The device for disinfection and sterilization of face masks on the face with plasma activated aerosol

Proposal reference:TOSK20211025001

There has been a new innovation developed by the team of researchers at the Slovak university in Bratislava region. The innovative device for more effective disinfection and sterilizationof face masks with plasma activated aerosol is now available for the market. Institution is looking for a commercial partner to license the technology.

In the current period, when it is on the rise pandemic coronavirus SARS-COV-2 are face masks, for example the surgical masks and respirators type of FFP2 / P2 (N95) one of the available possibilities of preventing serious COVID-19 disease. Demand for the mask on the face is constantly increasing, and thus decreases the possibility of their availability on the market. Individuals, as well as health workers continually facing the problem of reuse potentially contaminated masks. Although there are different technologies of sterilization of medical devices, most of them are not applicable to removing virus from masks. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a quick and available way of disinfection, sterilization but also their safe decontamination. A team of inventors from the university in Bratislava in Slovakia has designed a device for disinfection and sterilization of face masks on the face with plasma activated aerosol. The proposed innovative technical solution lies in the use of a corona discharge, that shrinks aerosol droplets to size in interval, in which the efficiency of filtering surgical masks and respirators is the lowest. Plasma activated hydrogen peroxide aerosol can penetrate the walls of surgical masks and respires type of FFP2 / P2 (N95) and thus disinfect and sterilize them. The institution is seeking an industrial partner for licensing for the further development and commercionalization of mentioned technology.
