Starting Tuesday, March 18, and running until July 8, 2025, self-applications are open for the 2025 edition of the International “Lombardia è Ricerca” Award, the €1 million euro recognition from the Lombardy Region, which this year is dedicated to “Early Diagnosis and Preventive Medicine”.

All scientists of any nationality who have made significant and innovative contributions in the research areas outlined in the 2025 Regulations (to find out which ones, click here) are eligible to compete for the International “Lombardia è Ricerca” Award.

New for this edition: self-application
Besides presenting their contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the Prize’s areas of interest, interested scientists must also submit a translational research project - another novelty introduced in 2025 - aimed at consolidating their research, to be conducted in Lombardy.

The goal of the Lombardy Region is to support scientists and projects in research fields with the potential to significantly impact the quality and life expectancy of citizens.

For example, the 2025 Award encourages innovative contributions for:

  • the early detection of diseases
  • the use of advanced imaging techniques or Artificial Intelligence algorithms for more accurate diagnoses and less invasive treatments
  • genomic and proteomic approaches to diagnostics for early identification of molecular anomalies and new disease biomarkers.

Additionally, the award supports:

  • personalized screening and preventive interventions
  • the development of innovative vaccines and targeted immunization initiatives
  • genetic and molecular approaches to prevention, including advanced sequencing analyses, studies, or technologies
  • Health promotion and disease prevention programs

How to Apply

Any scientist meeting the eligibility requirements (an h-index of at least 50 in research areas related to the 2025 Award) can submit their application by filling out an online form.

On the same webpage dedicated to the 2025 Award, applicants can download the necessary documents, including the submission form for the translational research project linked to the application.
This form must outline the collaboration plan with one or more research institutions in Lombardy and the funding utilization plan.
