The Law
The Research Day and the International "Lombardy is Research" Award were established under Regional Law No. 29 of November 23, 2016, "Lombardy is Research and Innovation" which also introduced other key elements that have become distinctive for the Lombardy Region, such as the Triennial Strategic Program and the Regional Forum for Research and Innovation.
The first edition of the International Award was held in 2017.

The Objectives
Law 29/2016 was created to promote, support, and foster the ecosystem of Research and Innovation in the Lombardy region.
The Day, the International Award, and the subsequent Student Award align with these objectives by promoting the importance of research and innovation to citizens, stakeholders, and students, and by supporting research activities in the region in collaboration with established scientists.
