The 2025 International Award “Lombardy is Research” has been jointly awarded to British professors Mark Caulfield and Douglas F. Easton, pioneers in the field of genomic medicine.

The recognition was granted to the two scientists for their groundbreaking research, which led to the identification of genes associated with increased susceptibility to various diseases, particularly cancers and cardiovascular disorders, having a significant impact on early diagnosis, prevention, and precision medicine.

Event

On November 8, 2025, the prestigious Teatro alla Scala in Milan will host the eighth edition of the Lombardy Research Day, established in memory of Umberto Veronesi to celebrate the fundamental value of science and innovation in the lives of citizens.

The event, open to the public, is a unique opportunity to bring society closer to the world of research, highlighting its tangible impact on the development of the Lombardy region.
The centerpiece of the day will be the presentation of the International Award “Lombardy is Research,” dedicated this year to advances in early diagnostics and preventive medicine.

During the ceremony, the most innovative projects submitted by high school and vocational education (IeFP) students will also be recognized, showcasing the talent and creativity of the new generations.
